a Labyrinth Fanfiction archive

Underground is moving to the AO3

Underground, a Labyrinth fanfiction archive, is being imported to the Archive of Our Own (AO3). In this post: Background explanation The Underground is an archive dedicated to the 1986 film Labyrinth, with almost 200 works. The archivist, banshee, has now decided to close the archive and import its works to the AO3. Open Doors will be working with banshee to import Underground into a separate, searchable collection on the Archive of Our Own. Eventually the links going to the old archive sites will re-direct to their new collections on AO3 so the works can continue to be found with their old URLs. We will begin importing works from Underground to the AO3 after December. What does this mean for creators who have work(s) on Underground? We will send an import notification to the email address we have for each creator. We'll do our best to check for an existing copy of any works before importing. If we find a copy already on the AO3, we will invite it to the collection instead of importing it. All works archived on behalf of a creator will include their name in the byline or the summary of the work. All imported works will be set to be viewable only by logged-in AO3 users. Once you claim your works, you can make them publicly-viewable if you choose. After 30 days, all unclaimed imported works will be made visible to all visitors. We will then permanently close down the site. Please contact Open Doors with your Underground pseud(s) and email address(es), if:
  1. You'd like us to import your works, but you need the notification sent to a different email address than you used on the original archive
  2. You already have an AO3 account and have imported your works already yourself.
  3. You’d like to import your works yourself (including if you don’t have an AO3 account yet).
  4. You would NOT like your works moved to the AO3.
  5. You are happy for us to preserve your works on the AO3, but would like us to remove your name.
  6. You have any other questions we can help you with.
Please include the name of the archive in the subject heading of your email. If you no longer have access to the email account associated with your Underground account, please contact Open Doors and we'll help you out. (If you've posted the works elsewhere, or have an easy way to verify that they're yours, that's great; if not, we will work with Underground mod to confirm your claims.) Please see the Open Doors Website for instructions on If you still have questions... If you have further questions, visit the Open Doors FAQ, contact the Open Doors committee. We'd also love it if fans could help us preserve the story of Underground on Fanlore If you're new to wiki editing, no worries! Check out the new visitor portal, or ask the Fanlore Gardeners for tips. We're excited to be able to help preserve Underground! - The Open Doors team and banshee

Profile & Settings Changes

A couple of little changes.. you now have the ability to include your Fanfiction.net and AO3 profile in your bio (edit them here).

We've also imposed a minimum word limit of 500 words per chapter, up to a maximum of 16,000.

You may have also noticed that all story pages have a nifty Social Network toolbar to enable you to bookmark or share your favourite reads for future reference.

If you have any suggestions or recommendations for improvements or changes, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Mobile Skins

Thanks to the beautiful and talented coding of Kali and Artphilia, there are two gorgeous Mobile Skins/Themes to choose from:

I've been successfully using both skins this week to read some of the wonderful stories that are still pouring into the archive. Keep up the great work authors - and look forward to some new features coming to the site soon!

New Layout/Skin

A new skin for you!

I just realised that there isn't a "mobile" skin on the site. Would anyone be interested in one of these? It makes viewing the site easier on iPhones and other portable devices. Feel free to comment/email me if this would be something you would like.

Fic Search

Help a fellow reader find-a-fic?

I'm trying to find a labyrinth story I once read on fanfiction.net

It involved some sort of war or conflict, and Jareth was supposed to marry a princess I think to unite the kingdoms.

Sarah came back, but he didn't know right away and then somehow the little princess tricked Sarah and Jareth into having sex to give Sarah powers...

It sure sounds like an interesting read!

Do you recognise this story? Please comment or email the details .

New Layout!

We have a brand new default skin here at Underground, courtesy of Aestas Fansites - and it is absolutely GORGEOUS!

A heartfelt thanks goes to Chrissy for doing such an amazing job with such meager direction. She managed to combine beauty, danger and confusion into one stunningly pretty package.

Aestas Fansites takes orders for fansite layouts and designs, so if you need a fresh face for your site, drop by and get Chrissy to whip up something this gorgeous for you too!

Challenges Section - Open

There is a new section added to the site for Challenges!

In addition, there has been a new Category added: Plot Bunnies - this category is mainly for the Challenges section, and can be used if you have ideas for a story but don't know how to write it.

Also, another Character setting: * All - this is to be used when you have a General Story (or Challenge) that doesn't involve a particular character, pairing, relationship or friendship.

If you have any ideas on how to improve the site, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Thanks to ilea for the idea of including the Challenges section to Underground.
